Star ratings are inadequte here. You may or may not like this coffee press...

The filter on this press press is not fine enough to keep the smallest pieces of coffee grind out of the coffee. To use this press, you should not grind your coffee very fine. (If you must brew from a finely ground coffee, then avoid this product and stick to brewers which use paper coffee filters.)If you are still reading, then you may be in luck or not depending on your preferences. There are two kinds of coffee drinkers: those who like it piping hot, and those who like it warm.If you are in the first group like I am, you should not buy this coffee press. It is made out of thin cheap glass, and it can easily crack if you pour boiling water in it. To their credit, the manufacturer warns you about it, and they suggest that you prepare the press with warm water for a few minutes. (After that you throw away the warm water, and then make your hot coffee.) This is inconvenient at best, and it also wastes energy by throwing away warmed up water. Well, you get what you paid for: this press costs less than $10.If, on the other hand, you prefer your coffee warm (not very hot), this is a great little product for you, and it is great value for your money. So I split the difference between two stars and four stars, and give it three stars on average. But you should either downgrade or upgrade the rating according to how hot you drink your coffee.

Makes the best coffee I've ever had.

I like strong coffee that takes like coffee smells. Lots of times this is accompanied by bitterness, but not with the French press. A simple design with a straight-walled glass beaker, a stainless screen on a piston/plunger, and a carrying handle so you can walk back to your desk from the hot water dispenser and not burn your fingers. My company recently eliminated free coffee in the cafeteria and from machines in the office areas. This device brews coffee at my desk and does not violate the prohibition on electrical appliances in cubicles. Using 1 tbsp for half or 2 tbsps for full 20 oz. brew, steep for 4 minutes with brief initial stirring, then press and pour off the coffee to your mug. I preheat my mug on a coffee warmer or with hot water from the dispenser. If you have high cholesterol issues you should research findings related to unfiltered coffee preparation techniques. You may want to choose a press that uses a paper filter, but if you have normal cholesterol this press will give you great results.

Terribly fragile, cheaply made product!

I realized this French press was cheaply made when I first opened the box; the carafe was wedged into a poorly-fitting metal base, and when the two came apart, I saw that the base was even thinner than the walls of an average aluminum soda can.The lid is too large to fit into the top of the carafe; before I even had a chance to use it, I wiggled the lid into place and left it on my desk for an hour or so; when I came back, the carafe had shattered from the pressure of the lid. I didn't even get to use it *once*.This product is horribly designed, cheaply made, and too fragile to be safe for use (what if it had been full of boiling water when the lid busted the carafe open?). Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $6 on a decent quality French press, and leave this made-in-China POS right where it sits.
