Item Information

Would you like a true premium French Press coffee maker unlike the common types everybody else seems to have? Quality you can see and feel, makes you the tastiest coffee or tea and gives a bold look and presence to your table top. Thats the MADRID French press coffee and tea maker by GROSCHE. A uniquely designed and crafted French press with fine chrome construction makes for a wonderful table top coffee and tea making experience. Commonly known as a French Press coffee maker, this style of manual coffee making has been long accepted as perhaps the best way to make full flavored coffee. By allowing the coarse ground coffee (which is the grind you should always use in a French press - finer grinds can seep through the filters) to infuser completely over a few minutes, the flavors and oils extracted in this process are unmatched. It has a dual filter system, with the main press being one, and another one in the lid as well. When You make your coffee or tea, turn the lid to close the press while your coffee or tea steeps, and turn it again to open it to pour. That will retain heat and allow for better flavor for your coffee or tea. The MADRID French press coffee and tea maker is truly a premium French press unlike any other, for a connoisseur of fine tasting coffees or teas. Replacement beakers are available from the manufacturer as well. The MADRID French press has an ultra premium chrome housing. It is dishwasher safe as well. Since it doesn't use any electricity, and is easy to rinse and clean, requires no disposable filters, a French press coffee and tea maker like MADRID is also perfect for for taking with you on your travels, or camping as well. I was a Barista in Germany and I am obsessed with coffee and espresso related gadgets. This is my fifth French Press. I bought two (can't remember brand names) during the three years I was in Germany and I have bought two (both were Bodum) since May when I returned to the States. I received this as a Christmas present from my mom in Germany. I have only been using this press for about a week, but there are some major design features that set this press apart from the others that I have owned in the past.Coffee stays hot for about an hour and warm for about an hour after that. The way that the bottom is angled helps to keep grounds out of your coffee. (Tip: If you have a ton of grounds in your coffee, use a coarser grind. Be aware that there will always be a very small amount of grounds in pressed coffee)This may sound like the wrong adjective, but the main filter is very "sturdy". If you have ever had a press with a very flimsy filter, you'll understand. When you actually press the coffee, the filter barely has any play. (Tip: If yours is wobbly, you may need to tighten the filter.)The filter, which has three separate parts, is able to be removed and taken apart for cleaning. I just rinse the three parts in warm water. The mesh part of the filter does not have any loose wires sticking out; the edge is completely smooth. However, I did accidentally bend mine (I dropped it), but it was very easy to manipulate the mesh to make it smooth again. This press has an additional filter at the spout. I tested it by intentionally letting some grounds get into the coffee. The filter actually caught about 95% of them. The press is clear, which is great. I like to be able to see what I am doing. The size is perfect. My last few presses were smaller. My husband and I didn't even get one full cup of coffee each. Now, we each get about one cup and one half.I was worried that the metal handle would get hot, but this is not the case. All of the metal stays cool. This press looks beautiful. I used it on Christmas while my in-laws were over. I got many compliments.I only hand wash all of the parts of this press, including the glass. I do not use soap on any of the parts, as instructed by professionals while I was still in Europe (they said that it is standard procedure for coffee presses and stove-top espresso makers). To conclude, this seems to be a wonderful press. Most presses only seem to last about six months. I will update my review in about six months, when I know how well it holds up.Update:Unfortunately, I dropped my press on the kitchen floor and shattered the glass. This was the best press I had ever owned. However, my husband and I decided not to replace the glass (it may be ordered from Grosche in Canada), because by the time you pay for shipping you might as well just buy a whole new press from Amazon. Instead, we are on the hunt for a stainless steel press. Wish us luck!

Best French Press!

I used to have a Bodum French press, and even being careful, always managed to break the glass carafes. A clerk at a store that sells them even said she thought the company made them so thin on purpose - so that customers would have to keep buying replacements. I decided to research a new brand and ended up purchasing the Grosche Madrid. I love it! The glass seems to be thicker, and it is very well made and sturdy over all. I also think this design is a lot more attractive and certainly less common than the ones Bodum offers. The screen part that filters the grinds is very fine and fits perfectly. I am definitely a convert to Grosche. And on another note, even though I chose standard shipping, I received this item the very next day after I placed the order - I don't even know how that's possible!Great all around!

French Pressed Coffee is Best

When people say they get as good a cup of coffee from their drip machine as a french press, I'm guessing they're not using very good coffee. With good fresh beans, and the proper grind, a french press produces the best coffee I've had. You can see the oil from the beans ring around your cup in a very slight froth after pressing. There are VERY small solids suspended in the liquid which carry much of the flavor. You can't tell the solids are there unless you let the coffee sit long enough for them to settle out to the bottom. Even then, though by that time your coffee is likely cold, it doesn't lessen the experience and great cup of coffee. A filter filters out all the good stuff: most of the oil and all the very small solids. The press method retains the most flavorful parts of the coffee. If you're considering a press, I highly recommend the Grosche Madrid. The price is right, the size is perfect. You can easily adjust how much coffee you make by how much water/grounds you use so you don't need to worry about always having too much coffee. However, when the need arises you have a bigger pot to make more coffee for those mornings when you need the extra jolt or when company comes. In my opinion, I think the cleanup's even easier, too. After you finish the last of the coffee, just dump the grounds into the disposal and rinse the filter and pitcher. Bam, 2 minutes, it's clean. I do throw mine into the dishwasher once or twice a week. Also, if you get this item, it's IMPERATIVE that you get yourself a proper burr grinder. Pre-ground will never taste as good, and blade grinders are simply out of the question. All in all, it's well worth the money. It costs less than a good drip coffee maker, makes better coffee, and cleanup is a breeze. Why wouldn't you buy this?
