The Bodum Eileen French Press Coffee Maker was developed to honor not only the great Irish designer Eileen Gray (1879-1976), but also all of the coffee connoisseurs who frequent the bistros and cafes of Paris - Gray's adopted city. It's specifically designed to withstand the exacting conditions of busy cafe and restaurant use. A solid, stainless steel frame protects the glass from knocks and bumps. The Bodum Eileen French Press Coffee Maker comes in three different sizes (0.35-Litre, 1/2-Litre and 1.0-Litre) and has all the wonderful advantages of a French Press system built into its modern style. It's made from borosilicate glass, stainless steel, chrome-plated steel and plastic and all parts are dishwasher safe, 4-Cup, 0-1/2-Litre.

I bought an "8 cup" one of these locally for family gatherings--my parents and my sigs are not coffee drinkers but I am and most of their kids (my nieces and nephews) are so I figured we could use a good coffee maker. I liked the metal design and thought they'd be slightly less risk of the glass breaking with the metal on the outside. It makes good coffee and seems to meet all my requirements. Just to be specific, it's 8 demi tasse cups which translate into about 4 American coffee cups. If you've got a big kettle or one of those electric kettles that heat waters fast, you can make another carafe when the first one is used up. I didn't notice the instruction booklet inside the carafe so got it completely wet when I did the initial wash out before use. It's a really nice coffee maker all around.

We are very happy with this French Press. You do need coarser ground coffee when using the French Press. Fabulous press for the $$
high expectations
The pictures online don't do this item any justice! It's not a tacky gold chrome as the 1st picture shows, but it's more of a classy gold chrome that would fit any midcentury modern and/or Hollywood regency home. I've posted a picture to this listing. It is absolutely gorgeous.34 ounces is pretty significant and will hold about 2-3 Starbucks tall coffee cups. I love my coffee piping hot and after the recommended 4 minute process, my coffee is still piping hot. Love it. I took away 1 star because it costs twice as much as another Bodum 34oz. french press....and I'm sure the performance is the same too. I just couldn't give up the lovely design. I figured that I'll be using this daily for years, so another $15 is nothing.
