Cheap Plastic Crap
Shorty

I have owned two of these, as I live in a small town, and it was the only coffee press that our local stores sell. The first one lasted for about six months before the press rod broke through the plastic spider of the filter, rendering the unit useless. I bought a second one, and this one was even worse. Within a week of buying it, the glass carafe had separted from the steel cage, causing me to spill coffee and grounds all over the counter, the floor, and myself. For the remainder of this miserable coffee presses life, I had to remind myself to hold the carafe in place while I poured. After two months of use, the plastic spider at the bottom of the press cracked, causing the press rod to come loose. I could press the filter down, but not pull it back out. Following the demise of the second Mr. Coffee press, I spent the $$$ and ordered a Bodum press, which is actually made with STEEL components. My Bodum press is still going strong after a year of daily use. The Mr. Coffee press makes just as good of a cup of coffee as any other press, but due to the poor construction and over-use of plastics versus metals, I would steer clear of this one. They do make a satisfying tinkling noise when you exasperatedly launch them into the bottom of the trash can, though.

2 Broken in 1 Week

I purchased 1 of these from a local store and used it a few months. A few days ago, I was washing it (by hand and being very careful about it) when I discovered the glass on the bottom had cracked. Thinking I must have banged something against it I bought a replacement last night. I took it out of the box to wash it and use it for the first time and, although it seemed fine then, a large and jagged piece of glass came off in my hand--considering the soap, etc. I was very lucky not to be badly cut. Something in the design and/or materials is poor enough that the glass cracks/shatters easily.

What do expect for 20 bucks

This product makes "up town" cowboy coffee. I.E. CB coffee without the grounds in your cup. I,have, had many a cup sitting around a camp fire. Now some Frenchman claims to have created it in 1929, or,some such. This one costs 20.00, and the concept is so simple that it will make just as good a cup as one costing $100.00, or $500.00, for that matter. The coffee is REALLY good no matter how much you spend on the press. Don't łet,the French steel our products. Not when we have been drinking a modified version for centuries in this country. Heck, most of the grounds would go to the bottom of your cup without any help ffom the press.
