Because there is no paper filter to absorb any of the essential oils or flavors from the coffee, the richest flavor comes through. This press is perfect for making a single cup of coffee. Just put the recommended amount of grounds in the bottom of the glass beaker, cover with water just off the boil, stir the grounds once or twice to ensure they are moistened - let sit for 4-minute and then press the plunger to the bottom of the pot to keep the grounds in place when you pour. I'm not sure why this happend, but the glass cracked and eventually broke only after the third time I used it. It cracked when I poured hot water in to it. What is up with that? Glass seemed to be thin and cheap. I'm very disappointed. I had used a Bodom brand for the previous year with no issues. The press as a whole seems a bit cheap and lower quality then the ones I'm used to.

This is our primary day to day coffee maker. With the proper grind (requires a special grinder), a very rough grind will prevent the grounds from overwhelming your cup of coffee which is true of all French presses. If you are not familiar with a French press don't rely on the instructions provided with the product; google your own best directions.Definitely a high quality press for a reasonable price and it looks great in the kitchen.
