I am the only coffee drinker in the house and thought this would be big enough for me. I knew it was going to be small, but it was smaller than I expected! (it is a 12 oz. so think a "tall" at a Starbucks)But, after adding three spoonfuls of coarsely ground coffee, the actual amount of coffee I get is even less (because of the coffee taking up space for the hot water) - I'd say this produces around 8 oz.Lucky for me I don't drink coffee as strong as the instructions provide, so I just make the strong brew following the instructions, and add more hot water in my bigger mug. It does make good coffee, and the filter does a good job of keeping the ground coffee out of my cup/coffee.One problem I had with the design is that in my previous experience with Bodum french presses, you could turn the lid so that the lid will "close" (meaning the part with the slits in the lid will not be next to the pouring part of the beaker) but with this lid and the way it fits with the handle of the french press, the lid won't budge. I pour my coffee out as soon as it's ready, but this could be a problem for some people.

I am new to the world of coffee beyond Mr. Coffee. So when I decided to buy a french press I didn't want to spend a lot of money on yet another, space stealing gadget. This small, very small, Bodum New Brazil 3-Cup French Press Coffee Maker, at the very nice price of 17 dollars, seemed to fit my budget and space constraints nicely(I have a nano sized kitchen). Amazon was great, shipped in two days, made my first coffee within 48 hours of hitting the order button. The coffee was amazing, WAS amazing. After less than a week of use the carafe cracked around the bottom. I was cleaning it with a bottle brush in mildly hot water. For other models from this manufacturer that wouldn't be a problem, but with this model you can NOT by a replacement carafe. So I guess if you are like me, and curious about a french press buy it, but if you are a heavy coffee drinker don't, it won't hold up to the rigors of a four cup a day drinker very well. Make very nice coffee, tastes great.

This says 3-cup but keep in mind that a cup is pretty small according to Bodum's measurements. You'll only get one 12 oz cup of coffee out of this french press. Nonetheless it does the job. It's hard to rate French Presses, they either work or they don't. This one's fairly easy to clean and seems well made.
