Product Information

Considering peoples love affair with chocolate,Bodum designed a delightful chocolate jug with unique blender-like qualities. The Bodum design significantly differs from classic ceramic or porcelain chocolate jugs but is still reminiscent of grandma's milk jug in form and shape. The cleverly devised manual blender of the Chocolatiere consists of a propeller attached to a spiral rod that smoothly mixes the chocolate or chocolate powder, producing a rich froth. This makes it a fun-to-use tool, ensuring the best mixed chocolate milk! The handle and the jug are made of heat-resistant, see-through borosilicate glass. The lid is made of stainless steel and plastic with a silicone gasket for better tightness. All parts are dishwasher safe. The manual blender can be fully disassembled for better cleaning. Fine drinking chocolate is becoming more and more popular across the US. Just cut up some fine chocolate and place it into the jug. Fill the jug with warm milk, set the lid in place and move the plunger up and down until you have a nice mixed chocolate and foam. For an even easier method, put cold milk into the microwave safe borosilicate glass jug and heat the milk in the microwave. Then just add the chocolate and froth. If you let the chocolate milk sit for a few minutes between servings it will naturally start to separate and that's ok. Just plunge a few times to mix everything back up. The Chocolatiere has a 1.0 l, 34 oz. capacity.

Don't bother. It broke within 6 weeks, and Bodum does not stand behind their products.

This product was nice while it lasted, but that was less than 2 months. I purchased mine the week after Thanksgiving and used it a few times a week. I always washed it by hand, even though the instructions state that it's dishwasher-safe. However, after about 6 weeks, the plastic piece at the end of the mixing rod cracked in half and fell off, which rendered the product useless since that piece holds the propeller in place.I e-mailed Bodum's customer service department, explained the problem, and asked them to replace the broken piece. They responded that the piece I needed would not be available for 4-6 weeks. I then told them that I had really enjoyed the product and did not want to be without my newly purchased hot chocolate maker for a month or longer in the middle of winter, when I use it the most, and asked that they send me a whole new Chocolatiere since they could not promptly replace the part that would make mine functional again. They refused, without further apology or explanation. I do not recommend this product (or any Bodum product, due to the poor service they provided). Now that I cannot use my Chocolatiere, I tried what another reviewer recommended -- a whisk. It works just as well, at a fraction of the cost (and much less to clean). Just microwave the milk in a Pyrex measuring cup with spout, whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar, and pour into a drinking mug! Wish I had thought of that before I shelled out $30.

High expectations -- lower results.

First, let me say that I'm a HUGE fan of Bodum products. I have two Bodum Chambord 12-Cup/48-Ounce Coffee Maker presses that I use in two locations EVERY DAY, and they are wonderful, sturdy, and make the best cups of coffee I can make. This chocolatiere does a decent job of mixing, and the mixing approach is quite novel and ingenious, but there's just no way that the little propeller can get all of the chocolate -- whether powdered or solid -- mixed in. You always get residue on the bottom that's wasted, and if you try to open the device to add more milk or to stir/scrape with a spoon, you make a real mess with dripping chocolate everywhere.I think the picture is a bit deceptive too -- as others have pointed out, they must have pumped that chocolate for an EXTREMELY long time to get that amount of froth on the top. It's solid in construction, but I'm not sure how long the rubber-like rim on the cap will last when exposed to the dishwasher, and that rim is necessary to keep the churning chocolate from flying out the top. It's a clever idea, but I think chocolate can only be mixed well with something like a whisk actually hitting the bottom of the pot/jar/container. If they'd redesign that element, I think they'd have a winner.

not as cool as you want it to be

i was very excited about this product as my household is very devoted to hot chocolate and it's accoutrements. the pitcher mixes the chocolate just fine but the froth you see in the picture is not what you are going to get. it creates very little froth, in fact, since the mixing paddles are solid and really do not aerate the drink at all. so you can pump and pump and pump but you are never going to get that kind of froth and once you get tired of trying, your hot chocolate is going to be cold. the pitcher is very beautiful and worthy of bringing out for company when you want something pretty but for foamy hot chocolate, we will be sticking to a whisk or our small electric milk frother.
