User Opinions

Wonderful! Easy to brew.

THE FRENCH PRESS: I have been making toddy coffee for years, but wanted something to use quickly for when company comes and I don't have enough concentrate on hand. This 12 cup version in white is great- a beautifully bright piece that makes enough for a gang. I have a carafe that I have heated with hot tap water sitting and waiting while I brew the coffee. I follow the instructions that I saw somewhere in the literature about this piece: let the water (filtered water from the fridge) come off of a boil, sit for a few seconds, and poor over the grounds in the press; I then set the timer for 4 minutes and it is ready to go. Whatever is left goes into the warmed carafe (dump out the hot tap water!). Sometimes I make it a little strong and have extra hot water to allow for various people's tastes, so they can add extra water if they like. It is easy to make pot after pot if need be. I was nervous about trying this but am so glad that I did.GRIND: I purchased coarsely ground coffee and it worked just fine. I saw after I got it that medium grind is recommended, so will try that next time.PACKAGING: It arrived in perfect shape.CARE: I always make sure that I have a sink pad below when I wash this. I never stack it in the rack- no stacking other dishes on it! I wash it solo and am very careful to protect the center innards as well as the glass.

Great for Dinner Parties and Daily Use!

I originally bought this because when guests wanted after dessert coffee, it took me forever because I had to go through several french press brew cycles to get enough for everyone. NOW, this great size not only makes this process faster and easier, it also does not effect the taste of our smaller brew amounts when we make only two cups of coffee every morning just for the two of us. It is a very high quality product. The screen press and container construction are study and made for daily use. No complaints! Bodum clearly make a very high quality product. I will not own anything else again!

Normal Bodum quality with one small design flaw

This is your standard Bodum french press. If you already have a smaller one, it's pretty much the same. Glass carafe, black plastic around the outside. The filter works great and the coffee tastes perfect. But look closely at the picture. You see how that handle kind of sticks out over the carafe? No, I didn't see it either until I got it. It makes taking the filter out for cleaning difficult. It's still doable, but you just have to kinda wiggle it out. In the end, I would buy it again because I love french press coffee and I needed to be able to make more than 32 oz, but I would have cut the handle off at the carafe edge.
