This classically designed French press consists of a narrow cylindrical glass jug, and is equipped with a lid and a stainless steel plunger, which fits tightly in the cylinder glass beaker and which has a fine wire mesh acting as a filter. Coffee is brewed by placing the coffee and water together, leaving to brew for a few minutes, and then depressing the plunger to trap the coffee grinds at the bottom of the glass jug. A French press requires coffee of a more coarse grind than that used for a drip brew coffee filter, such as produced by a burr mill grinder rather than the whirling blade variety, as a finer grind will seep through the press filter and into the coffee. Because the coffee grounds remain in direct contact with the brewing water and the grinds are filtered from the water via a mesh instead of a paper filter, coffee brewed with the French press captures more of the coffee's flavor and essential oils, which would become trapped in a traditional drip brew machine's paper filters. French pressed coffee is usually stronger and thicker and has more sediment than drip-brewed coffee.

I purchased this coffee press in conjunction with the Hario MSS-1B Mini Mill Slim Coffee Grinder.The press fits nicely into the carafe and pushes down very easy. The press and carafe also clean up with minimal fuss.Overall, the product seems to be well made and a great value for the price.

This is a good mid-range quality press at a great, low price. Sturdy glass caraffe, nice feeling, plunger knob. Cleaning is a bit easier than average for press-pots. I'm pleased with my purchase.

No complaints... The press makes great coffee and is easy to clean. You can wash the glass part of the press in the dishwasher. The amount of coffee recommended in the instructions made the coffee too strong, so we cut back on the amount used. If the glass would break in the future, I would purchase this unit again.
