Item Information
The Brazil French Press coffee maker, designed in the early 80's, was our first coffee maker and quickly became a symbol of what Bodum stands for. Attractive and functional design at an affordable price. The Brazil has a heat resistant, SAN - shatterproof beaker and a polypropylene handle and base, which make the Brazil easy to use and easy to clean. The 3-part stainless steel plunger has a fine mesh filter, which allows for a premium extraction of your coffee's aromatic oils and subtle flavors. A mesh filter allows this flavor to be delivered direct to your cup and not absorbed by a paper filter. Plus, no paper filter means no waste. The patented safety lid prevents the splashing of liquids while pressing. All parts are dishwasher safe. This 8-cup coffeemaker is (1.0 l, 34oz.) in size and is also available in 3-cup (0.35 l, 12 oz) size model.

- The beaker is BPA free for healthier coffee consumption, and it brews coffee in 4 minutes
- 3-part stainless-steel plunger with fine mesh filter means flavor is delivered directly to cup; no paper filter
- Patented safety lid prevents splashing while pressing for worry-free, mess-free use
- All parts dishwasher safe; 8-cup (1 liter / 34 ounce) coffeemaker also available in 3-cup (0.35 liter / 12 ounce) size

I got this as a Christmas present last year and have been using it every day since then. This is a french press coffee maker. It uses a plunger/filter system to squeeze or press the water out of the grinds, and it works great. It makes some of the best tasting coffee I have ever had. It's very simple to use as well. Put the grinds in the jar, add water just off the boil, stir the water and grinds together, put the lid on with the press retracted, let them sit for 4 minutes (or longer depending on your taste), and then depress the plunger and press the grinds until it stops. Pour out the coffee and enjoy! Making a cup of coffee takes less than 5 minutes, compared to a automatic drip machine's 8. Coarse ground coffee is recommended for french presses because it's easier to extract the coffee from them, plus the water is near boiling. If you use regular ground beans for an automatic drip or finer, it will make the coffee very strong and bitter. It could also clog the filter and make it very hard, if not impossible, to press (I've tried it).The Brazil is Bodum's economy line of presses, but you still get all the good features like a 32 ounce shatterproof jar, a BPA-free plastic base, handle, and lid, and the 3-stage stainless steel mesh filter press. I really like the Brazil because like I said it makes the best coffee I have ever tasted. This is because the grinds spend more time in contact with the water, which allows them to release more of their oils and compounds that add to the body and flavor.Quality and durability are pretty good. I haven't had any problems with it at all. The jar is nice and durable, and the filter has held up fine. The press is dishwasher safe, the base is nice a wide to keep it stable during pressing, and the jar hasn't broken. The only issue I can see is that the coffee stains the plastic parts of the lid and spout. Everything is dishwasher safe, so it can be washed off, but it's very difficult to get it all and it is stained again after one use. Also, bits of coffee grinds get stuck in between the jar and base and are about impossible to get out unless you take the base off (you can, the jar is replaceable if it gets broken).Pros:Dishwasher safeShatterproof jar and BPA-free plastic partsAffordableTriple layer stainless steel mesh filter systemSturdy constructionReplaceable jarWide base prevents spillsCons:Gets dirty fastGrinds and dirt gets trapped between base and jarWished it had a non-skid rubber bottomOverall, if you are coffee afficianado and can't afford a vacuum percolator, get a french press!
