Customer Reviews

I think it's great!

We have three of these, one for each of us, ... in black, lime green, and blue (I've seen it in other colors, too) ... and have been using them constantly for a year and a half. The size is perfect for a large mug of coffee, two regular cups of coffee, or you can make one smaller cup if you like. The outside shell allows you to see inside the carafe, at the same time protecting the glass, should it ever break. However, it feels quite strong to me; I never feel like I need to be extra careful with this french press, as other glass ones I have handled. One of the three carafes we have does have a hairline crack in the glass, but I don't know if that is because it was dropped or had too hot of boiling water poured into it. We make sure to wash them on the top shelf of the dishwasher so as not to get them next to the high heat source. I like how the plastic shell also extends underneath the carafe edges so that it protects the counter from the heat of the coffee. In another review, someone complained about how flimsy the filters and plunger are. I don't see that at all. At the bottom of the plunger there is a screw, sort of wing-nut shaped, that holds the three parts of the filter together. You can loosen it to clean between the pieces, then tighten it back up. I wonder if the reviewer didn't realize it could be tightened. Of the three we have, two of the plungers always stay tight, however, the third plunger does tend to loosen now and then, but we just tighten it back up.For us, the low price was worth the investment, and the three presses are still going strong and making great coffee!

I have the updated version with glass carafe and metal inards. Beware!

This french press works great. Bought mine at discount store for 6 bucks. Glass carafe seems sturdy. Parts work fine.Reason for the just 3 stars is that when I took apart the filter assembly, a bead fell out from the base portion of the filter. It acts as an internal spacer for the stem and base. I almost lost it. You will not be able to connect the filter correctly without the bead. It's ashame that the owner's manual didn't mention about it since it recommended taking it apart for washing. Now that you are aware of this bead. You might know why your french press doesn't work.Looks like there were a few reviewers with this problem. You might want to call Mr Coffee if you don't see a bead in your base for the filter.Lastly, I want to comment about the carafe slipping out when it gets hot. It is not a issue since I normal put my thumb on the carafe when I pour my coffee. Plus I have to hold the ball of the stem as well since my lid is a little loose. Plus I don't normally pour the container past 180 degrees horizontal to the table.UPDATE :I returned the unit. Not because I don't like the unit. I just don't like washing this type of filter system. Too many parts. It has similar parts as the most Bodum Glass Carafe French. This might actually be better since the Bodum uses a plastic collar on the stem.I would've kept it if the manufacturer had secure the bead(ie. bigger one) and if I didn't already have the Aeropress and an 8 oz Travel French Press with a simple one-piece filter.Someday if I ever need to purchase another French press. It would be with a simple filter system ie. the OXO model.

Nice design

The filter and lid unscrew for easy cleaning. The size of the press is nice too and gives me about two cups of coffee -- a perfect amount for me as I am not a heavy coffee drinker.
