Product Description

Founded in 1921, HARIO is one of the leading and most recognized brands for heat-resistant glassware in Japan. This unique and functional ice coffee maker comes with a 20 oz glass carafe, a plastic diffuser to store ice and cool hot coffee before hitting the ice, a plastic water distributor, a famous V60 dripper (plastic), 10 ea Hario size 02 paper filters, and a English/Japanese user manual. The versatile kitchenware can be used to make iced or hot coffee any time of the year.

Pros

  • The Fretta's unique design combines a 02 size dripper cone similar to the Hario VD-02T with a 600ml glass carafe.
  • Curved ridges on the inside of the cone aid in the control of water flow as it interacts with coffee grounds.
  • The plastic diffuser allows for quicker cooling and a more balanced flow of coffee over the ice, resulting in less melting.

Amazingly Simple and Effective Fast Iced Coffee

Not much to it - glass carafe, plastic ice funnel insert, plastic drip diffuser, drip cone (and a snap-in carafe lid) - oomes with 10 sample cone filters. The diffuser lets the dripping coffee cool a bit before hitting the ice below, resulting in much less melting than if you just poured hot coffee over ice. Obviously more dilution than if you let the coffee cool separately, but this not only saves that step, but accomplishes a strong iced brew (up to 600ml) in the amount of time it takes to drop through 2 cone-fuls of hot water (we use a hot water pot - using the same grounds for the 2nd fill). About 2-3 mins per carafe.Directions are all in Japanese - but you pour a little hot water over the dry grounds, let it sit for about 30 seconds until they puff-up a bit, then pour hot water in a spiral over the grounds until the cone is full. Repeat the hot water fill once and you have a 0.5 liter of pre-cooled iced coffee. There's also simple folding instructions to use Melitta (flat-bottom) cone filters too. It's the diffuser design that makes this practical, and efficient. And no waiting to keep making another carafe.

HARIO FRETTA ICE COFFEE POUR OVER

Everything by Hario is awesome. I roast my own coffee and when I brew with the Hario it gets the flavor only this system can get. Ice coffee is made a bunch of ways but this system captures the flavor like no other. It is fast easy to clean and makes just enough for a few cups. I can also use it to make hot coffee too. A nice pour over kettle helps and a weight scale that measures volume but 1ml = 1g. Hario has nice videos on youtube if you need instructions. They are all in japanese like the manual but there is always a nice lady to show you excactly what to do.

Simple and good

I was looking for something that could make good tasting iced coffee without having to wait for it to chill. I decided to give this a try and I'm glad I did. The coffee tastes great and it comes out cold. The only complaint would be that it doesn't make a lot at a time. It's really not a big deal though. I usually end up transferring the carafe to another container and filling it up two or three times each go.
